History
Parnassus has been given its name from the son of nymph Kleodoras, Parnassos. It was dedicated to Apollo, the Muses and Nymphs. Some ancient writers want the «dikoryfo» or «dikorymvo», which in ancient greek means “with two peaks”. Other writers name more peaks. Yampia, Nafplion, the Korykeion mountain, Tithorea , Katoptirios and Lykoreia are some of them. The two highest peaks of Parnassus are Liakoura (Lykoreia) 2,457 m and 2.435m Gerontovrachos.
The Parnassus is the most beautiful mountains of Greece, overgrown by trees with dense vegetation and rare natural beauty that attracts visitors all year. On the mountain is open, from December to early May, at an altitude of 1.600-2.250 on sites and “Kellaria” and “Fterolakka”, the Parnassos Ski Center, the largest and better organized ski center of Greece.
The Parnassos Ski Center is the first to the preferences of skiers, as it is located very close to Athens, Lamia and Patras and its facilities enable the service of a large number of visitors and skiers. The Center operates two chalet-cafes and restaurants, schools for learning ski and snowboard, ski equipment rental and storage service with a playground for younger guests. From this year, running for first time, at location “Kellaria” 1750, maintenance shop for ski and snowboard, with the most technologically advanced machinery.
